jug (containers); oenochoe

Jug, trefoil mouthed oenochoe. It is Archaic Cypriot, and painted white. The jug was wheel-made, from fine white/cream clay. The vessel is in one piece. The exterior lower part of the squashed spherical body is slightly burnished. It has a trefoil mouth, and a single vertical basket handle that joins the body and short neck. The handle has a brown zig-zag pattern in a border. The foot is formed by a simple ring and impression. On the top part of the body are three birds and two cross-hatch motifs, with a brown band on the neck, and dots and circles on the lip. All of the decoration is in dark and golden brown paint.
