Dr Yewande Okuleye hosts three 1 hour conversations with influential Nigerians who work with Nigerian culture and heritage.

The live series weaves in dialogue, poetry and food to explore shared experiences and memories of identity and belonging, drawing on the Horniman collections.

In Dr Yewande Okuleye’s words, “as two Nigerians, we ‘stand in’ for the object, we complete the narratives of the object: our very presence decolonises this space”.

Conversation with Onyekachi Wambu

21 October 2020, 6 – 7pm

Onyekachi Wambu is the Director of the African Foundation For Development (AFFORD), as well as a historian and writer. This conversation will explore Igbo Ukwu art, moving on to Igbo language, history and culture.

Conversation with Mr Uche Nwokedi SAN

29 October 2020, 6 – 7pm

Mr Uche Nwokedi SAN is the director of Kakadu, a hugely popular musical that has toured globally in Nigeria, Switzerland and South Africa. Kakadu is the name of a famous nightclub in 1960s Lagos and the story captures the carefree spirit of post-independent Nigeria and the joys, tribulations and resilience of four friends, as their lives are ruptured by the civil war. ​

Conversation with Remi Vaughan-Richards

4 November 2020, 6 – 7pm

Remi Vaughan-Richards is the director of award winning documentary Faaji Agba. Faaji Agba is an intimate portrait of the history, culture and music scene of Lagos through the musical adventures and reunion of long forgotten musicians. The documentary will serve as an inroad to talk about memories of Lagos and the global influence of Nigerian Music.
